The power has reportedly gone out at several building Tuesday morning in downtown Detroit.
Officials are investigating what caused the outage and have not yet offered an explanation. The power is reportedly out at several other major city buildings, such as the Joe Louis Arena and the Detroit Institute of Arts.
Detroit Fire Chief Jack Wiley told Fox 2 that all firehouses are experiencing power outages, but some have generators. He says many crews are responding to reports of people being stuck in elevators. The outage happened about 10:30 a.m.
Detroit-based DTE Energy Co., which often assists the city with power issues, says it's checking into the problem and would have information soon.
All Detroit Public Schools announced they are dismissing at their half-day dismissal times due to the massive outage.
Wayne State University has tweeted its classes are currently running as scheduled, although some buildings are without power.
