One-Week After SHTF
The scenario is real and has played-out in many countries in the near past
“This is a mellow version of the possible near future”
It’s been a long day of people going door to door in your neighborhood asking, pleading, and begging for any amount of food. Some of these situations were very intense. Maybe you have some stored and maybe you don’t. Either way, you are waiting it out and expecting that the government is working on a solution of some kind. I wish I could tell you that you have seen the worst of it, but that won’t serve you in the preparedness state of mind you need. You have been hearing gun shots and listen to the reports of looting and violence in the cities around the country, but your neighborhood has been pretty peaceful. That is about to change as night falls.
Most predators stock their prey in a very cunning way
All around you through the day, families and groups have been assessing the situation and making plans to survive. Some of their children are getting sick from lack of food and very little water that may not be safe to drink. For them, it has become a decision between life and death. Some families of like-mindedness and purpose have teamed up and have made plans to take what they need through any force necessary. They have people reporting back with information on which addresses seem to have the healthiest looking people that may have food and water when they talked with them and pleaded for help. Other individuals have the same idea. Some of these people are trained or are in good physical condition, or both. Most are armed, hungry, scared, and very dangerous. Some dangerous and regularly non-dangerous people have migrated from the city, to your suburban landscape.
Most predators come out at night
As night falls on your neighborhood, it starts. You hear the screams by your candlelight and quickly extinguish the flame. Your children might ask you what is happening or simply cry out that they are scared. You are armed, but you can tell as the noise grows louder, that there are more people around looting and pillaging than you have bullets for. You hear gunshots that seem to come from your street and you start to cry and pray, holding your children tightly. You might remember the other day when your husband told you to please take that praying stuff in the other room, because he didn’t feel it was doing any good. The horror of this situation is more intense than anything you have ever felt and you are praying for a miracle.
You are on your own
The police were active in the first few days, but given the numbers of officers killed and the level of violence escalating everyday, most changed into civilian clothes and left to protect their own families. Less than ten percent of the National Guard personnel reported for duty, so those that did are tasked to protect the government properties and leaders. There were food and water stations set up at first, but rioting made them non-existent after four-days and there weren’t enough troops to contain the crowds of hungry and thirsty people. The government has regressed back into their bunkers and fortified buildings until things settle down. There is the smell of death in the air when the wind blows and the sun is out. At night it is less because of the cold weather.
Hindsight is 20/20
You look back on the day the power went out. It was a Sunday and many friends and family were gathered at your house for the football game. You can still taste the different foods in your mouth and you can see now how glutenous you were. You are so out of shape that you can’t walk out of your neighbor to any safe place or physically fight for your own life, let alone that of your children. You don’t have the gear or the skills to survive in the wilds, where many people have already gone. While some people migrated to your area, others migrated out of population centers and into the countryside. You think about how winter is setting in strong, and you hope those people will make it in the cold without homes around them. Then you are snapped back to the now, and feel the cold of your home, as you hear someone kicking at your door.
What are you going to do? Put a couple of rounds through the door? Will they then set your house on fire? Will they shoot back?
This was just a wake up call. If you are dreaming of a community pulling together in SHTF, it will happen at first. Please remember how humans really are in nature. We are all animals. We will act like animals and compete viciously for resources in the absence the societal rules, regulations, and enforcers of peace. Imagine the rioters and looters now, but multiply that be a thousand or more. We compete now in a more civilized way that is just as brutal, but with different variables. We compete for money, but have regulations in place and charity systems to allow most people to have at least something. Void of these systems of social and government structure, we will all revert back into the animal state and fight over the resources we use money to purchase.
Money is merely a tool of separation to keep our animal faces and claws away from each other’s food and water bowl.
Remove that and the systems of comfort, along with the regulating systems and personnel of protection, and you will have a viciously competitive world of life or death. All people will have to choose to compete viciously or die at first, until the population of the world diminishes enough to allow more of a separation of space between people as they group together. Once that occurs, there will be boundary or territory disputes, small wars, and raids. This is the reality of a real SHTF world. If you at least want your children to survive, then prepare then to fight, forage, and live from the land. Teach them they ways of nature and where the food they eat originates from, so they can find it when the stores don’t exist.
Please prepare accordingly in a multitude of serious ways, because the threat of this happening soon is real.
