I lost my power for about an hour today (Saturday). No snow, no wind, no ice storm, no extended disaster, just some random bozo backing into a power pole. Noon on a non-rainy day, and Allegany Power had it fixed in under two hours. (Thanks, guys.) No big deal.
It DID make me think about what might happen as the weather gets worse (and wind-storms happen in the summer, too).
This $5-10 prep item was very handy at night a few years ago when the power was out for 2+ days.
You’ll need:
- A tall shelf or something else “up”
- The cheapest ‘full length mirror’ you can find at the megamart or a yard sale.
- A light source – candles, hurricane lamps, lantern, whatever.
Angle the mirror a little so it doesn’t fall over, and reflects light onto a light-color ceiling.
It’s not bright enough to read the fine print in a legal document, but it’s friendlier than darkness, and you won’t trip over the cat.
