Black Friday and the Ferguson Riots: This is Why We Are Armed

This is why we are armed

It’s important to prep. You probably already know this, or you wouldn’t be here, reading an article on a site like this.  You know that you need a stockpile of food, fuel, medical supplies and other necessities.

But just as important as those so-called “beans and band-aids” is the ability to protect it.  That’s where the “bullets” come in.

Some people don’t really get into the weapons and defense part of prepping. They think it’s enough to have a supply of food and water to see them through a month or two of disruptions. Their plan is to simply lay low and stay out of dangers. They think that learning to use a weapon, stockpiling ammo, and making sure your family members are also able to defend themselves is just going overboard.  They chuckle about “those preppers who are expecting  a Mad Max scenario” and figure that’s the stuff that movies are made of. It’s not real life

To people who don’t believe that firearms and a defense plan are vital, I submit to you, Exhibit A:

These shoppers were willing to trample, shove, punch, kick, and otherwise beat the crap out of their fellow man just to get a “deal” on a Christmas present.

Yesterday in his annual “Running of the Sheep” video montage, Mac Slavo shared videos of people fighting over sale-priced panties, hurling garbage cans, and someone who took  tazer to the chest over a bargain on a TV.

In Pamplona, Spain the yearly tradition is to throw yourself into an arena and run for your life as an onslaught of bulls chases you. In America, we have a similar tradition, but the bulls are replaced with human sheeple who will stop at nothing to ensure they walk away with the best consumer deals they can find. People are often hurt in both events and sometimes the annual runnings even lead to death as the weaker sheep are trampled during all the commotion.

This year the Boston Globe estimates that about 100 million Americans will head out for their annual running and they’ll spend upwards of $13 billion in a single day.

The action this year started on Thanksgiving Day and sheep across the nation looking for mega-discounts on cheaply built toasters, electronics and other consumables didn’t hesitate to jump into the ring.

Videos like those were shown on news stations all over the world. How positively embarrassing to be grouped in with those people who stampede like a cackle (I looked it up, that’s really the word) of hyenas  all slavering over a downed gazelle.

But there’s something bigger at play here. When bad things happen, worse things often follow.

Black-Friday-Stampede

What would these people act like over something that was actually a matter of life and death?

Now…think about this.
What if there was no food? What if the grocery store was cleaned out and there was no sign of it restocking anytime soon?  How would this same throng of people behave to get the last loaf of bread or case of canned goods?  What would they do if they knew you had food in your home, while they had nothing?
I think we all know the answer to this question. If people are willing to assault another human being over a pair of panties, they will definitely lay siege to your home if you have food and they do not.  Not only would we have the hungry entitlement crowd to deal with, but we can also add in the plain old ticked off people who destroy property just for the sheer “fun” of it. (See Ferguson, Missouri for more information about the joy of wholesale rioting and destruction.)
You can stockpile until you have a decade of supplies put back, but if you can’t defend it, you don’t actually own it. You only have it because no one has bothered taking it away from you yet.  You have what you have based on the goodwill of others, who are stronger, greater in number, and better armed.  You may not like hearing this, but you need only to check out the videos to which I’ve referred you to realize how out of control people can get.
black friday door crashers

You have to look at the psychology of this. People can justify pretty much anything when they or their children are starving. And I can understand that to a large degree – who could stand to watch their babies suffering?  But if someone can devolve to the above degree just to get $10 off of a flat screen TV that they will still be able to acquire at another time, the chaos we saw above is only a tiny sample of what is to come.

Think about the movie The Hunger Games: the violence at the cornucopia is pretty much just an armed version of Black Friday. Does this look familiar?

Tributesrunning

Some people act like this for “fun”.

Some people are just waiting for the opportunity to behave in that fashion. They’d love to act like that every single day, but they don’t want to spend the rest of their lives in jail. But when a verdict gets rolled out, when a storm takes out the power, when a disaster strikes, they delight in the chance to rob, pillage, loot, and burn.  Who can forget the day before Superstorm Sandy hit the East Coast, when thugs were coordinating looting rampages via Twitter?
I remember learning about “sublimation” in a high school psychology class.
Sublimation is a defense mechanism that allows us to act out unacceptable impulses by converting these behaviors into a more acceptable form. For example, a person experiencing extreme anger might take up kick-boxing as a means of venting frustration. Freud believed that sublimation was a sign of maturity that allows people to function normally in socially acceptable ways. (source)
If you believe Freud’s theory, then it’s easy to see that many people look for an excuse to revert to their true natures.  In a situation where “everyone” is doing something, they are able to cast off their normal control of their impulses without much fear of reprisal. The number of looters and thugs far outstrips the number of arrests going on in Ferguson, so there’s a very good chance that someone swept up in that mentality can go burn somebody else’s home or business and completely get away with it.
Outrage In Missouri Town After Police Shooting Of 18-Yr-Old Man

As well, for some folks who are on the fringe of preparedness, their entire survival plan is based on taking what others have carefully put back.  Remember that yahoo who was on Doomsday Preppers, boasting about how he planned to become a marauder after the SHTF?
“We’re not in it to stockpile. We’re in it to take what you have and there’s nothing you can do to stop us,” Tyler Smith says. “We are your worst nightmare, and we are coming.”
Smith, 29, is the leader of Spartan Survival. The group has more than 80 dues-paying members. Smith founded the organization in 2005 to train and prepare others on survivalism.
On Tuesday night, Smith’s story will be told on the National Geographic Channel survivalist TV show “Doomsday Preppers.” (source)
Not all of the people coming to your door will be there because they are starving and desperate. Some people are just bad seeds, and they’ll delight in the opportunity to be who they really are.

How do you stay safe in the aftermath of a disaster?

A few simple strategies can help you to stay safer.

1.) Don’t be where other people are.

A lot of danger can be avoided by simply staying home, and here’s where your preps come in.  If you have supplies, you have absolutely no need to go where the hordes are to line up and get more.  Trust me when I tell you, it won’t be an orderly line for long. The doors will open and everyone will want to be first.  Someone will cut in front of someone else. The food will run out before they get to everyone who is waiting for a handout.  It doesn’t take much to incite a crowd of stressed-out, waiting people into a ravening mob. (Remember those Black Friday videos above?)
Here’s a list of basic supplies to have on hand.  Remember that sometimes power supplies are lost during situations like this. Occasionally officials do this to gain more control over the populace and sometimes it happens as a side-effect of the wholesale destruction by the rioters. Keep the potential for a down-grid situation in mind when preparing.
  • Water (1 gallon per person per day)
  • Necessary prescription medications
  • well stocked pantry - you need at least a one-month supply of food for the entire family, including pets  (Here’s how to build one fast!)
  • An off grid cooking method (We have a Char-Broil Offset Smoker American Gourmet Grill, an outdoor burner, and a woodstove inside)
  • Or food that requires no cooking
  • tactical quality first aid kit
  • Lighting in the event of a power outage
  • Sanitation supplies (in the event that the municipal water system is unusable, this would include cleaning supplies and toilet supplies)
  • A way to stay warm in harsh winter weather
  • Over-the-counter medications and/or herbal remedies to treat illnesses at home
  • A diverse survival guide and first aid manual (hard copies in case the internet and power grid are down)
  • Alternative communications devices (such as a hand-crank radio) so that you can get updates about the outside world
  • Off-grid entertainment:  arts and craft supplies, puzzles, games, books, crossword or word search puzzles, needlework, journals
Some Army friends served in Africa, and they’ve told me about managing food drops to the people there.  The violence that breaks out over those MREs they’re handing out rarely fails to leave a few people trampled and bleeding. Some of those hungry people would shove a knife in their own grandmas to get an extra ration of food. If disaster strikes here, do you really want to fight it out over a handout from FEMA?
I recently read “Going Home” by A. American. In the book, and EMP has wiped out power and services across the nation. The hero of the book is stranded 250 miles away from home, and has to make his way back on foot.  He’s perfectly fine doing his own thing, walking, and camping. But when he has the misfortune to meet up with others, more often than not, all heck breaks loose, and he has no choice but to defend himself with deadly force. (PS: It’s a really good story! You should check it out HERE.)

2.) Keep your home secure at all times.

So, you’re staying home, as per the above advice. Make your home look like the one on the street that would be the most difficult to breach.
Here are some tips to make your home less of a target:
  • Keep all the doors and windows locked.  Secure sliding doors with a metal bar.  Consider installing decorative grid-work over a door with a large window so that it becomes difficult for someone to smash the glass and reach in to unlock the door.
  • Fences and gates that lock are another deterrent.  If your home is surrounded by a fence and someone comes knocking at your door unexpectedly, you know that someone has gone to the effort to climb your fence – they probably aren’t there selling Girl Scout cookies.
  • Keep the curtains closed. There’s no need for people walking past to be able to see what you have or to do reconnaissance on how many people are present.
  • Don’t answer the door.  Many home invasions start with an innocent-seeming knock at the door to gain access to your house.
  • Keep pets indoors. Sometimes criminals use an animal in distress to get a homeowner to open the door for them. Sometimes people are just mean and hurt animals for “fun”.  Either way, it’s safer for your furry friends to be inside with you.

3.) 911 is not a viable option.

When disorder is widespread, don’t depend on a call to 911 to save you – you must be prepared to save yourself.
First responders may be tied up.  Think about the scene in Ferguson right now. How many cops do you really think are being dispatched to people’s homes? According to some reports, the cops are standing there under direct orders just watching things burn.  They’re doing nothing to stop it.  In normal situations, calling 911 might be an option – during a widespread disaster, they won’t be responding fast enough to help you, if at all.
What’s more, in some cases, the cops are not always your friends.  In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, some officers joined in the crime sprees, and others stomped all over the 2nd Amendment and confiscated people’s legal firearms at a time when they needed them the most.

4.) Be ready to defend your home.

If, despite your best efforts, your property draws the attention of people with ill intent, you must be ready to defend your family and your home.  You’ve done all you can. You’ve stayed home, you’ve tried to avoid attracting undue attention, you’re minding your own business.
If trouble bursts through your door, you must meet force with force.  In this situation, the lives of your family depend on your ability and willingness to protect them.
  • Have a plan.  This is something you need to work through with your family in advance. Non-combatants need to understand they must get safely out of the way so that the people who are armed and most appropriate to engage can do so without worrying that the children will get caught in the crossfire. Make up a drill so that you can practice with your family.  You also want to figure out the best places to take cover and how to draw the intruders into a kill zone. This will be different in every home, based on your layout and what you have available.
  • Be armed and know how to use your weapon of choice.  Particularly during situations of civil unrest, remain armed at all times. When the door of your home is breached, you can be pretty sure the people coming in are not there to make friendly conversation over a nice cup of tea.  Make a plan to greet them with a deterring amount of force.
  • Have a safe room established for children or other vulnerable family members. If the worst happens and your home is breached, you need to have a room into which family members can escape.  This room needs to have a heavy exterior door instead of a regular hollow core interior door. There should be communications devices in the room so that the person can call for help, as well as a reliable weapon to be used in the event that the safe room is breached. The family members should be instructed not to come out of that room FOR ANY REASON until you give them the all clear or help has arrived. You can learn more about building a safe room HERE.  Focus the tips for creating a safe room in an apartment to put it together more quickly.
  • Plan an escape route.  If the odds are against you, devise a way to get your family to safety.  Your property is not worth your life. Have bug-out bags ready, create rally points, and make sure everyone knows more than one route to get there.
It’s very important to make your defense plan well before you need one.

5.) Be armed.

This is the part of preparedness that some people find very uncomfortable.  Well, you have to get over that.  If an intruder breaches your home, there really are only two options: you must be prepared to defend your family or you must be prepared to bow down and be a victim.

  • Find a weapon that you are comfortable with.  If you aren’t comfortable with a bigger caliber firearm, look to the humble 22. At close range, a well-placed shot will stop a threat. It’s better to have a smaller caliber weapon you can handle than a bigger weapon with so much recoil you can’t hit the broad side of a barn.
  • Teach everyone who is old enough to use weapons. Chances are, your friendly neighborhood thug won’t be coming alone. Increase your chances of survival by arming more family members. My daughters are both teenagers, but they are comfortable with a variety of weapons, including firearms, long bows, and up-close-and-personal items like mace and tazers.
  • Practice, practice, practice. One caveat: a weapon you don’t know how to use can be more dangerous than having no weapon at all.  Take classes, go to the range, or find a nice place in the woods to blow through some ammo. If your weapon can be dry-fired, practice drawing and aiming at home (obviously, checking each time to be sure the gun is unloaded). The more you handle your firearm, the more comfortable you will be. In a high stress situation, you don’t want to be fumbling for the safety, taking your eyes off the threat, or being surprised by recoil. The more you practice and handle your weapon, the more muscle memory will take over, allowing you to place your focus on the intruders instead of “how-the-heck-do-I-fire-this-gun?”.

This is your early warning.

So many times, when interviewed after a disaster, people talk about being “shocked” at the behavior of others.  Their level of cognitive dissonance has lulled them into thinking that we’re safe and that we live in a civilized country.  They are unwilling to accept that civilization was only a veneers, even when the evidence of that is right in front of them, aiming a gun at their faces, lighting their homes on fire, or raping their daughters.
Black-Friday-Fight

Look at the two examples that have occurred over the last week: the riots in Ferguson and the madness of Black Friday shopping.
Then tell me how “civilized” our country is.

Charcoal for the Treatment of Diarrhea or Dysentery

charcoal

Diarrhea or dysentery is often caused by food poisoning or exposure to contaminated water.  After TEOTWAWKI, this would become more common due to lack of refrigeration, clean water and good hygiene.

In the old Special Forces Medical handbook, there is an appendix, called Primitive Medicine in a Survival Situation that discusses this issue.  This was written by a doctor that spent time in a North Korean Prisoner of War Camp where they had a real problem with severe dysentery.  They set the standard for dysentery at 25 stools per day, 8 to 10 was considered normal and 15 just simple diarrhea.

Since they had no modern medications they had to treat it with improvised meds.  To treat it, he stated that they used charcoal scraped off a piece of burned wood.  They used about a handful for dysentery and the patient would have to swallow it.  They also burned and ground bones in ash and swallowed the powder.  Schoolroom chalk was powdered and swallowed.

They also took bark for oak trees and would boil it in water for between 12 hours to 3 days.  The resulting balk concoction was vile tasting and hard to get down, but worked due to it containing tannic acid.  If addition to the above treatment they also encourage the drinking of large amounts of boiled water for rehydration.

Activated charcoal U.S.P, is a pure naturally produced, wood charcoal carbon.  One teaspoonful has a surface area of more than 10,000 square feet.  This allows it to adsorb large amounts of chemicals or poisons. It works much better than the raw charcoal they had in the POW camps. Because of its ability to absorb contaminates always store charcoal in a tightly sealed container.

Activated charcoal U.S.P. can be purchased at most pharmacies and health foods stores.  I have also heard of people buying activated charcoal at pet stores.  It is used in the filters for aquariums.  If you use the fish type, you may need to grind it into finer pieces.  If the diarrhea is caused by food poisoning, a half a teaspoon or so will often bring quick relief.  It also works great for the relief of heartburn.  I often use it for mine.

Warning: Briquettes for grilling food are not safe sources for either external or internal use, as various fillers and chemicals are applied to hold the charcoal together and to insure rapid igniting.

Activated charcoal is not for everyday use as it adsorbs important vitamins and minerals you need to be healthy.  You should wait 2 hours before taking any other kind of medication or meds may be neutralized.

I want you to be sure and understand that I am not a Doctor and have not had any specialized training.  You need to verify this information with your own doctor prior to any attempt to treat yourself based on information in this article.  This for information only.

Earthquake Preparedness: It Is Never Too Late To Start

Earthquake Preparedness

According to the United States Geological Society (USGS), close to 2 million earthquakes occur every year in the world. However, some of the quakes are so slight that they are not detectable without sophisticated equipment.
It may seem like earthquakes are occurring more often, but better detection equipment and the fact people are living in more remote areas may create this belief. Earthquakes of course occur in regions that are not populated and so they do go undetected, unless there is seismic detection equipment located in the area (USGS, 2014).
Typically, earthquakes will occur along the edge of the oceanic and continental plates but of course, they can essentially occur anywhere. They strike without notice, and depending on the magnitude, the destruction can be devastating resulting in loss of life and extensive property damage.
Those living near a coastal region can also experience a tsunami because of an earthquake. Large tidal waves caused by earthquakes can destroy entire towns and cities creating untold damage to the coastal regions. Normally there is some notice of a pending tsunami but you cannot rely on being notified.
  • Stay inside the home or building when an earthquake occurs. People are killed and injured by falling debris from buildings, from downed live power lines and from sinkholes in the streets. People also become injured from trying to evacuate buildings during an earthquake.
  • Never enter any damaged building with a lit candle because of possible gas leaks.
  • Monitor for tsunami warnings and evacuate as soon as the possibility of one becomes clear
To determine your risk for an earthquake visit the following: https://www.fema.gov/earthquake/earthquake-hazard-maps
Prepping Your Home for an Earthquake
Hazards from an earthquake can include mud/landslides, tsunamis, collapsing structures, falling trees and light poles/street signs, collapsing tunnels and overpasses, sinkholes in streets and from fires and explosions because of ruptured gas lines and from damage to electrical wiring. These mentioned of course are not the only hazards but they are the typical ones.
Inside your home, you can be hurt from the structure collapsing, from falling dressers, mirrors wall mounted televisions, brick or stone fireplaces, appliances that tip over, falling dishes/pots and pans out of cupboards and from falling canned goods, and from fires occurring because of gas leaks or from damaged wiring.
In areas where earthquakes occur in this country, commercial and private structures must meet certain standards so the structure can withstand a certain magnitude earthquake. This does not mean however that your home or commercial structure will not receive damage but the likelihood of the entire structure collapsing down upon you is dramatically lessened.
In countries where the infrastructure is poor or non-existent and there are no building codes the death toll from earthquakes is considerably higher.
Check with the local code enforcement and/or city-building inspectors to determine if your home is up to code. Even though it may not seem like it, inside of your home during and immediately after an earthquake is the safest place.
Getting Started
First, you need a safe room that everyone gathers in when an earthquake occurs. The room should have a load-bearing wall (s). What is a load-bearing wall? A load-bearing wall (or bearing wall) is a wall that bears a load resting upon it by conducting its weight to a foundation structure.
You will need a stout table to get under for protection from falling debris, and the table can be pushed up against the load-bearing wall. The room should be big enough so if there is a fireplace you can be far enough away from it so any falling brick or stone would not pose a threat.
Televisions should be anchored to the wall if they are on a stand and in many cases, they will come with a strap so you can anchor them to a stud. Wall mounted televisions are not recommended nor are hanging chandeliers. Emergency supplies should be kept in the room for immediate use. You can also store football or bicycle helmets for children and adults for head protection.
1.) It is important that you know how to shut off the main supply of gas to the home. If an earthquake occurs, you want to stop the gas from flowing into the home and leaking through ruptured gas lines running to the appliances.
You can also have special gas valves installed on your meter that will automatically shut off if there is a tremor. The shut off valves are sometimes called “earthquake actuated gas shutoff valves” and in some counties or cities, the valves may be required.
If you do not have an automatic shutoff valve, you can use a pipe wrench or adjustable Crescent Wrench.
2.) Shut off the main breaker that supplies electricity to the entire home.
3.) Use metal or suitable nylon straps to anchor your hot water tank to wall studs to prevent tip over which can cause injury and water damage. Additionally the hot water tank could be a source of emergency water so protect the source.
4.) Upright refrigerator/freezers must be strapped to the wall studs to prevent tip over. Washers, dryers, and dishwashers typically would not pose a threat. However, stackable washers and dryers would pose a threat so make sure they are anchored properly. Microwaves mounted over the stove as well as wall-mounted ovens could pose a threat, so make sure they are anchored to the studs as well.
5.) Dish cupboards should have solid doors with latches that would prevent the dishes from spilling out. Pot and pan racks must be anchored properly as well.
6.) Pay particular attention to bedrooms. You do not want any object falling on a sleeping person. Bureaus/dressers and armoires must be far enough away from the bed or anchored properly. Televisions must be anchored and any wall-mounted televisions must be far enough way so if they do fall they do not strike the bed. The same applies to any brick or stone fireplaces.
7.) Sideboards or curio cabinets must be anchored to wall studs, and the cabinets should have latches that prevent the doors from falling open.
9.) Surprising enough even builders will at times only anchor overhead lights to the sheetrock if it is ½ sheetrock. You need to make sure any overhead lighting is anchored to the ceiling joists and this means you will have to get into the attic to check. You can nail a 2×4 between the joists to anchor any ceiling lights to or use metal banding designed specifically for this purpose.
10.) Keep all hazardous/toxic chemical on the lowest shelf in the home.  In the garage at floor, level inside a metal cabinet with a latch on the door is the recommended storage method. Spilled chemicals can cause death or injury to those inside the home.
Emergency Supplies
As with any crisis there are certain items you will need regardless of the calamity so your home preparedness kit will have what you need, with possibly a few exceptions.
  • You may need crowbars, firefighter axes, handsaws and sledgehammers for extraction from damaged building or for rescue operations
  • Head mounted battery operated lights and remember any flame can cause an explosion from leaking gas
  • Heavy rope such as climbing rope for extraction and rescue
  • Heavy brooms and shovels for cleanup as well as large rubbish barrels
  • Quality respirators because there will be airborne contaminates in the air from insulation, plaster, sheetrock and so on, as well as, contaminates from spilled chemicals

5 SECRETS TO SURVIVING A WINTER POWER OUTAGE

Many people love the natural beauty of a snowy day. However, a severe winter storm is something that very few people are happy to see coming. Not only does a winter storm bring traveling to a sudden halt, it could also cause a loss of power in the home. Failing to be properly prepared for a lack of electricity could lead to disastrous consequences. Here are five secrets to surviving a winter power outage.
5 Secrets to Surviving a Winter Power Outage

Surviving a Winter Power Outage

Food & Water

When a winter storm is on the approach, it is always best to stock up on at least a couple cases of bottled water. This will ensure that everyone stays properly hydrated. It is also a good idea to fill the bath tub and large containers with water to use for purposes other than drinking. Instead of purchasing fresh or frozen foods, opt to buy non-perishable foods such as canned goods and dried fruit. Most canned meats and vegetables are safe to eat even if they are not heated.

Consider a Generator

When the lights go out, a generator will prove to be a very valuable power source. A professional electrician service such asTrim Electric will be able to install a generator kit in the home. The generator kit enables a portable generator to be safety connected to the home’s breaker box. This eliminates the need to run potentially hazardous extension cords from the exterior of the home. The generator can then be used for such things as powering space heaters, recharging cell phones, and providing electricity for cooking. However, be sure to have a fresh supply of fuel on hand.

Heating Source

If your home is already equipped with a gas heater or fireplace, you are already one step ahead of the game. Having an adequate supply of firewood will ensure that the fire will be able to last for several days. Under no circumstances should gas stoves be used to heat the interior of the home. Gas stoves have the potential to cause carbon monoxide poisoning.

Using the Toilet

Always keep a pail of water on standby. The toilet can be effectively flushed by pouring water directly into the bowl.

Staying Warm

To ensure that your body temperature remains as warm as possible, wear a head covering or hat to prevent heat from escaping from your head. It is also advisable to keep thermal blankets and sleeping bags on hand.

Strong Likelihood of Ebola In Phoenix Area

Independent news TV stations, Channel 3 reporters, Jill Galus and Karla Navarrete, are reporting Ebola like symptoms in the Phoenix suburb of Ahwatukee (AZ).
The 32 year old unidentified man called 911 Friday at about 3AM and was reporting vomiting and diarrhea and said he had returned from Sierra Leone on Wednesday. He is now manifesting symptoms of Ebola. The man is reporting severe flu like symptoms which are the first indicators of Ebola.
adams ebola apartmentChannel 3 is reporting that responding emergency workers responded to the scene dressed in full protective gear. However, one may want to recall that several medical personnel have contracted the deadly Ebola virus wearing full protective gear.
The medical center is blocked off with yellow tape and no one can go in or out of the area. How effective is yellow tape in stopping the spread of the virus?

Sugar for Wounds: Do You Have It in Your First Aid Kit?

Sugar for Wounds

Sugar for Treating Wounds
The following is for informational purposes only. The information provided is not medical advice, and should not be considered as such. Any wound, cut or abrasion has the potential of becoming infected if not treated promptly and effectively. Certain wounds that become infected can be serious leading to loss of limb and possibly loss of life.
For over 4,000 years, medical practitioners have known about the wound healing properties of sugar. Now in Europe and in the U.K. in particular doctors, nurses and others directly responsible for the treatment of wounds and burns are bringing back this 4,000-year-old treatment.
Trials using patients with wounds have shown that the ancient treatment works. The reason sugar works to treat wounds is because sugar tends to draw water into its midst, through osmosis. This action both dries the bed of the wound to promote new tissue growth and dehydrates the bacterium that causes the infections in wounds, leaving the bacteria weak and fragile.
Sugar taken orally however will not destroy bacteria inside the body.
According to the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, sugar is hygroscopic and functions to dehydrate all bacteria. Bacterium of course requires water to survive and to multiply. Thus, the lack of water results in bacterial death.
“When bacteria die, they cannot reproduce. Therefore, infection cannot occur if all bacteria are eliminated in and around the wound” (Richard A. Knutson, MD).
Some studies have concluded that honey mixed with sugar can enhance the healing. It may be that the viscosity of the honey allows greater penetration into the wound and allows better contact with the wound. Honey also has certain anti-bacterial properties according to some experts.
The same theory applies when cooking oil is mixed with sugar to treat wounds. The oil or honey is mixed with sugar and applied as a salve. Petroleum jelly can also be applied to the bandage to help keep the sugar in place.
Puncture wounds are typically left open to promote healing.
A simple salve of sugar applied to the wound and covered loosely once it has stopped bleeding has the greatest effect according to most. Sugar in its granulated form will draw the moisture from the wound, which kills off the bacteria and prevents further growth.
In a survival situation, sprinkling granulated sugar in a wound may very well stop/prevent a serious infection. You must have clean water to irrigate the wound so that fresh sugar can be reapplied. Depending on the severity of the wound, you would change the dressing of sugar two to four times daily.
Proper hand sanitation is critical as well as having clean bandages available. Used cotton bandages can be rinsed well with clean water and then boiled for 10 minutes or longer to sterilize. The drying and handling process must be such as to prevent contamination of the bandages.
You can also mix povidone iodine (10 percent solution) with the sugar creating a paste to apply to the wound. The iodine will kill any bacteria present in and around the wound and the sugar will help stop any new growth.
The sugar paste is applied only after the wound has stopped bleeding and after the wound has been properly irrigated to remove any debris from the wound. Putting sugar and/or honey on a bleeding wound may cause it to bleed even more because they may interfere with the clotting process.
Sutures
People tend to want to suture wounds in a survival situation before attempting other methods of wound closure or protection. Suturing is invasive and you should only suture if all other non-invasive methods have failed, when butterfly bandages or standard Band-Aids will not close the wound properly for example. Suture however, when bone can be seen or when you can see fatty tissue, which is yellow in color.
Closing a wound that has not been properly cleaned can trap debris/bacteria in the wound and could prevent the sugar and iodine if used from making contact with all parts of the wound. Suturing may be necessary if you do not have the means to treat the wound or cover the wound to prevent contamination, or the wound simply refuses to begin the healing process because of the separation of the tissue. However, if you do suture the wound you would still want to apply the sugar and/or other topical antiseptic.
Once again, the above is merely an opinion and is not medical advice. There will always be disagreement on when and how to suture and on how to treat wounds, so always consult with a medical professional before beginning any outdoor adventure.
What Is In Your Survival Medical Kit for Treating Wounds
  • Add granulated sugar to the list of items. Sugar you find on the grocery store shelves will work as long as it is pure granulated sugar. The physical properties of granulated sugar play an important role.
  • Make sure you have bandages (compression and pressure) and/or clean material to make bandages. Clean water is critical so you will need the means to collect and purify a water source.
  • Topical antiseptics such as povidone iodine should be in the kit as well.
  • Have material for a tourniquet in your kit and know how and when to use one. There are specific times when one is needed. Constricting or stopping blood flow to a limb can cause damage to tissue that is irreversible and can cause the loss of limb. Typically, a tourniquet is applied when there is an amputation of a limb or when there is, an arterial wound and bleeding cannot be controlled by compression.
  • Have a suture kit but again know how and when to suture a wound.
  • Have thermal blankets for treating shock
  • Medical Gloves
  • Razor knife or scalpel that has been protected from contamination
  • Over the counter or prescription pain medications
The list is by no means comprehensive. It must be adapted to suit specific needs.
Sugar will have to be packed so that it does not absorb moisture from the air and so it is not contaminated with dirt and other debris. Allowing the sugar to absorb moisture may reduce its effectiveness in treating wounds.
How much to pack, this depends. Assume you would have to treat yourself and anyone with you. One sugar packet the same kind found on restaurant tables probably would be considered one treatment if the wound is small. You would need up to four or more treatments per day, per wound.
Do not forgo professional medical treatment just because you have sugar on the wound. Seek medical help immediately if available. The above information is for emergency treatment only and the described treatments will have varying degrees of effectiveness.

“Barrier Is Not Holding” at Fukushima Plant

fukushima

All efforts have failed to stop very high levels of radioactive materials flowing into the Pacific ocean.
TEPCO and the Japanese authorities are running out of ‘solutions’ for the containment of the highly radioactive water that continues to accumulate at the stricken plant.
Tepco unable to halt tainted water flowing… from the No. 2 reactor building to underground tunnels at [Fukushima Daiichi,] officials said. Tepco has injected cement… but water levels suggest the effort has remained unsuccessful… The company began the cement injections after failing to create an “ice wall”… Tepco pumped 200 tons of tainted water out of the tunnels Monday… [If] completely sealed, water levels would have fallen roughly 80 cm [yet levels only dropped 20 cm], the officials said, indicating the possibility that contaminated water is still flowing into the tunnels. The officials also noted the possibility that groundwater may be flowing into the tunnels. However… the amount of radioactive materials in the tunnel water is very high, an official in the Nuclear Regulation Authority said. “Concentrations should have been lower if large amounts of groundwater are really flowing in” (source)
Fukushima is a disaster of biblical proportions, yet it’s rarely mentioned. The idea that keeping quiet about it will make it go away is one that only politicians and their buddies in the mainstream media could have come up with. As the Pacific Ocean, and all the life within it becomes toxic the ultimate effects on the food chain will be enormous.
2.6 billion people rely on the oceans to provide them with their primary source of protein and marine industries employ over 200 million people worldwide. (source) Those who favor Agenda 21 must be rubbing their hands together with glee at the mere thought of the ultimate death toll. Add in the knock on effect of the food chain disruption, cancer and sterility and you have the perfect recipe for massive depopulation.

Did They Want More Violence In Ferguson? 10 ‘Coincidences’ Too Glaring To Ignore

Ferguson-Civil-Unrest-Photo-by-Loavesofbread-300x300

Was it a conspiracy or was it incompetence?  Those appear to be the only two alternatives that we are left with after the horrific violence that we witnessed in Ferguson on Monday night.  The first round of Ferguson rioting back in August took everyone by surprise, but this time authorities had more than three months to prepare.

They had the ability to control precisely when the grand jury decision would be announced and how many cops and National Guard troops would be deployed on the streets.  But despite all this, the violence in Ferguson on Monday night was even worse than we witnessed back in August.  Either this was a case of almost unbelievable incompetence, or there was someone out there that actually wanted this to happen.  If someone out there is actually trying to provoke more violence in Ferguson, then the rioters are being played like a fiddle.  Most of them have no idea that they could potentially just be pawns in a game that is far larger than they ever imagined.

The only other alternative to explain what we just saw is incompetence on a level that is absolutely laughable.  Something definitely does not smell right about all of this, and let us hope that at some point the American people get the truth.  The following are 10 “coincidences” from Monday night in Ferguson that are too glaring to ignore…

#1 Federal, state and local law enforcement authorities had more than three months to prepare for the violence that would follow the announcement of the grand jury decision.  The mainstream media endlessly hyped this controversy and everyone knew that trouble would be brewing.  But despite an enormous amount of time to prepare, very little was actually done to prevent any violence from happening.

#2 Someone made the decision to make the public announcement about the grand jury decision in the evening.  Anyone involved in law enforcement knows that crowd control is far more difficult after dark.  This also ensured that instead of being tied up with work or school, a maximum number of protesters would be able to be involved in the violence.

#3 Fortunately for the mainstream media, the announcement of the grand jury decision was perfectly timed to provide the largest possible number of prime time viewers for the big news networks.

#4 Just like back in August, no law enforcement authorities of any kind responded while dozens of businesses were vandalized, looted and set of fire.

#5 According to Ferguson Mayor James Knowles, National Guard troops were purposely held back from intervening in the rioting that was unleashed when the grand jury decision was made known to the public…

In a press conference, he called the delay “deeply concerning” and said the Guard troops were available but were not deployed when city officials asked.

The troops had been readied last week by Gov. Jay Nixon as the grand jury announcement neared. But as gunshots rang out in the night and looters torched buildings, they were nowhere to be seen.

#6 It is being reported that the heavily armed National Guard troops were limited to “keeping the peace at a courthouse, patrolling the outskirts of town and preventing disturbances in other suburbs” as horrific violence raged in the heart of Ferguson on Monday night.

#7 Missouri Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder has accused Missouri Governor Jay Nixon of holding back the National Guard troops because of pressure from the Obama administration.  On Monday night, he angrily made the following statement to Fox News…

“Is the reason that the National Guard was not in there because the Obama Administration and the Holder Justice Department leaned on you to keep them out? I cannot imagine any other reason why the governor who mobilized the National Guard would not have them in there to stop this.”

#8 The Washington Post has documented that Attorney General Eric Holder had been in direct contact with Governor Nixon and had expressed “frustration” with the fact that the National Guard had been activated…

A top aide to Holder called the governor’s office earlier this week to express Holder’s displeasure and “frustration,” according to a Justice Department official.

“Instead of de-escalating the situation, the governor escalated it,” said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the subject. “He sent the wrong message. The tone of the press conference was counterproductive.”

#9 Firefighters in Ferguson did not immediately respond to calls to put out the multiple fires that were set by protesters.  As a result, many businesses essentially burned to the ground.  But this did make for some amazing television footage.

#10 In the worst of the “war zones”, journalists with cameras and microphones were crawling all over the place while there were hardly any police to be seen at all.  How is it possible that law enforcement could have failed so badly?  Could it be possible that this was orchestrated on purpose?

Sadly, as I have written about previously, the civil unrest that we are witnessing in Ferguson is just a small preview of what is coming to America.

The anger and frustration that are seething under the surface in this country have reached a boiling point.  Instead of coming together, we are seemingly more divided than ever.  Americans have been trained to hate one another, fear one another and blame one another.  I fear that we are not too far away from actually becoming ungovernable.

And when the next major wave of the economic crisis strikes and we start experiencing real suffering in this nation, the temper tantrums that we are going to witness in our major cities are going to make what is happening in Ferguson right now look like a Sunday picnic.

So buckle up and hold on, because it is going to be a really bumpy ride from here on out.

Ferguson is not the end – it is just the beginning of a horrible new chapter in American history.
