Recipe Emergency Food Bar

Recipe Emergency Food Bar

There are all sorts of recipes for survival bars on the internet, and I have sampled several commercial bars, and while they work – I have wanted to try to sample ones I can CIY (Cook It Yourself) – After much research, I found this recipe from Food Storage and Survival http://foodstorageandsurvival.com/make-your-own-homemade-survival-bars/

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups oats
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 TB honey
  • 1 3 oz package jello (orange or lemon because of the high sugar content – anything else makes it very sweet – I also suspect it gives a little vitamin C)
  • 3 TB water

Procedure:

  • Mix the oats, powdered milk, and sugar together in a bowl
  • In a medium pan mix water, jello and honey.
  • Bring to a rolling boil.
  • Add jello mixture to dry ingredients.
  • Mix well. (If the dough is too dry, add a small amount of water a teaspoon at a time. It needs to have a low water content for storage, but it is very thick and dense, and needs water to stick together.)
  • Shape dough into a loaf about the size of a brick.
  • Place on a cookie sheet (with parchment paper) and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Alternatively, you may want to just dry in the oven at low heat because of the sugar content.
  • Cool
  • Wrap in aluminum foil to store.
If you dry it to lower than 10% moisture, you may vacyum seal it, but if there is moisture in the loaf, you may be growing botulism.

I am told this loaf will keep indefinitely and each loaf meets the daily caloric needs for one adult (approx 2000 calories).

[NOTE from Suzanne:  I think I will try these and dry them in my Nesco dehydrator and then vacuum seal.]

Anyone Can Do it! Fool-Proof Food Storage!

Anyone Can Do it! Fool-Proof Food Storage!

cans

What do you say when people ask you how to get prepared? There are so many ideas floating around in the preparedness community. The two questions I ask are:
  • How much water do you have stored?
  • How much food do you have in your pantry?
For anyone starting in preparedness, these two areas are the starting points….the starting points!!!!
Water storage is pretty easy. You can stock up on cases of water bottles, clean out 2 litter soda bottles, get a 55 gallon drum and even get a Water Bob that can be deployed in no time!
Food storage is a little bit different. Tons of articles have been written on freeze-dried, dehydrated, MRE’s, DIY canning, mylar bags and O2 absorbers, gardening, etc… For the newbie, it can be very overwhelming and discouraging!!!!

So, where do you start? You start with something that is fool poof! What is fool-proof food storage? Stock up on canned food that you can buy at your local grocery store! This is fool-proof and will allow you to put away 2 weeks easily!

But wait…there’s more to this fool-proof food storage story!

When I was researching this article, I was prepared to come up with food recipes that only needed canned food items from the grocery store to be prepared. However, in my research, I found an older website, Y2K mind you, that has already done this for you! The cool thing is that there are recipes for main dishes, desserts, breads, soups and more that you can make with just items purchased from the grocery store!
From Emergency Kitchen:
All recipes call for what I think of as the “regular” size can. It varies a bit, but is about 14 or 15 ounces. I don’t specify the size if using this size can. I indicate if another size is called for. All times are for a regular stove, so you’ll have to adjust for your cooking surface.

I use a 12 inch cast iron skillet or a Dutch oven for just about everything.
I only use ingredients you can purchase in your grocery or warehouse store. You may have to try more than one store for some of the more weird ones, like “Just Whites.” Just Whites are powdered egg whites found in the baking section of most grocery stores (at least in my area).
The Main Dishes include:
Beef Biscuit
Chicken Spaghetti
10 Minute Italian Meal
Camp Fire Supper
Baked Bean Crown Roast
Gin’s Tuna Mac
Chicken Stew
Corned Beef and Rice
Corned Beef Hash
Easy Rice and Bean Wraps
Stir Fry Noodles and Rice
Tomato Macaroni and Cheese
Linguini with Clam Sauce (Red or White)
Ramen Casserole
Rice and Beans
Salmon Patties
Sweet and Sour Beans and Ham
Sweet and Sour Spam
Turkey and Dressing
Warning – This an older website, I mean like from the 1990′s! But the info. is great! I would read over the recipes, maybe even try a few if you’re not sure that they will work for you. You can print them out and keep them in one place. You’ll have to play with the serving sizes to see if they meet your families needs, but after that, you have a plan that is easily managed!

Choose 7 recipes, make your list of ingredients, double it and you have 2 weeks worth of food storage in dinners. Of course, you will need breakfast and lunch. But this takes the guessing away from what to do and where to start!

After you check out the recipes at Emergency Kitchen, check out some of the other articles!

Congressional Report: Ebola Bio Kits Deployed to National Guard Units In All 50 States

Mac Slavo

The Department of Defense informed Congress that it has deployed biological diagnostic systems to National Guard support teams in all 50 states, according to a report published by the Committee on Armed Services. The report, published in April amid growing fears that the Ebola hemorrhagic fever virus might spread outside of West Africa, says that the portable systems are designed for “low probability, high consequence” scenarios.

Some 340 Joint Biological Agent Identification and Diagnostic System (JBAIDS) units have thus far been given to emergency response personnel. The systems are “rapid, reliable, and [provide] simultaneous identification of specific biological agents and pathogens,” says executive officer for the DOD’s Chemical and Biological Defense group Carmen J. Spencer.
The Chemical and Biological Defense Program has sharpened the DoD diagnostics portfolio by increasing the capability of our fielded system, some 340 of which have been provided to the Military Services.

The Joint Biological Agent Identification and Diagnostic System is a portable system capable of rapid, reliable, and simultaneous identification of specific biological agents and pathogens. By partnering with the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command and the Food and Drug Administration, we have made accessible additional diagnostic assays for high consequence, low probability biological threat agents for use during declared public health emergencies.

This collaboration has facilitated the availability of viral hemorrhagic fever diagnostic assays for use during a declared emergency and adds previously unavailable preparedness capabilities to this fielded system.

To address the need for a near term capability to combat emerging threat materials, we have already provided Domestic Response Capability kits to the National Guard weapons of mass destruction civil support teams resident in all 50 states.

These kits provide emerging threat mitigation capability that includes detection, personnel protection, and decontamination.
Full Congressional Report via POTR
According to manufacturer BioFire Diagnostics, the JBAID is capable of detecting a variety of infectious disease targets including Anthrax, Plague, Ricin, and various forms of influenza. The detection kits sent to National Guard units also include hemorrhagic fever detection capabilities, giving the military the ability to identify potential infections in as little as thirty minutes:
The ruggedized JBAIDS is an open platform that analyzes 32 samples in 30 minutes and is deployed in field hospitals, mobile analytical labs, shipboard medical labs, food and water safety test centers, research labs, and other mobile scenarios.

(Pictured: Joint Biological Agent Identification and Diagnostic System)
The Ebola threat recently popped up on the global radar when an infected individual traveled via airplane from Liberia to Nigeria’s capital of Lagos, alarming bio-specialists who say it could just be a plane ride away from U.S. shores.
As noted by Steve Quayle, Department of Defense planners had already taken steps to deliver the biodetectors to the National Guard before April of this year, suggesting that, while no infection of Ebola in North America has been confirmed, the military is already taking precautions.
The military has response plans in place for national emergency events that could include anything from a pandemic outbreak to economic collapse, both of which could lead to civil unrest.

Video Update (Provided by POTR)
It is unclear how real or imminent the threat may be, but it is clear that a massive surge of Governmental spending and preparedness has occurred since Hemorrhagic H7N9 Bird Flu came on the scene in 2013 and those preparedness activities are accelerating as EBOLA has started to gain momentum in Africa.

In that regard, spotting the field use of the biomedical equipment shown below is an extremely strong indicator that a Biodefense operation is underway. Pay special attention to the JBAIDS device shown below, its presence at any medical or field facility is prima facie evidence of a high risk medical event of disastrous proportion.

Why Switching To a Double-edge Safety Razor Makes Sense

Why Switching To a Double-edge Safety Razor Makes Sense

When we prepare for an uncertain future, we often consider the big things. Things like preparing a bug-out bag, getting enough water, foraging for food, buying enough ammo or increasing our tactical skills.

Yet there are smaller items that make life better. Having soap, for instance. Or toilet paper. Or, in the case of today’s article, being able to shave and still feel like a human being under less-than-ideal conditions.
Sometimes old tools are the best tools.

This is the case with many gardening implements, cast iron cookware, and…
Razors.

6236572936_82d0692a4c_z
This kid shaves like a man (photo credit).

I’m not crazy enough to go all the way back to using a straightedge razor; however, a few years ago I switched from using an electric razor or disposable razors to using a classic Gillette double-edge safety razor from the 1950s. It was an antique-store special… and it was one of the best buys I’ve ever made.

When I first started shaving, I used cheap disposable razors, later followed by a Gillette Mach III. That provided a good shave but the cartridges were prohibitively expensive. since they cost $2-3 each and only shave well for a few uses.

If you’re an obsessive saver, paying $1.00 PER shave is distasteful in the extreme.

After switching back and forth between my Mach III razor and cheap disposables for a while, I was given an electric razor. Unlike the Mach III, it was cheap to use; however, it had a downside: it didn’t provide a really close shave.

I was wandering aimlessly through my manhood, ne’r to find a good shave… until four years ago when I came across this post over at Lew Rockwell’s site.

I’d always assumed that the old double-edged safety razors had fallen by the wayside because they were inferior to modern razors. After reading the above article, I decided to give them a chance.
A week or two after the thought of a vintage shave entered my mind, I happened to be near one of my favorite antique stores. I stopped in and decided to look for old razors that were still in working condition.

Lo and behold… I found a few. And they were cheap. I picked up a pair of single-edged razors along with a Gillette double-edged safety razor (which cost me $12.00). After buying the razors, I stopped by the grocery store and found some single and double-edged blades in the pharmacy section, along with some “Mug” shaving soap and a cheap bristle brush.

I quickly discovered the single-edged razors were really tough to handle, so after a few days I gave up on those. The double-edged razor worked wonderfully, however.
I was impressed.

Better: the initial investment in the razor was minimal, costing less than a new Mach III. It’s not pretty anymore, but it’s solid.

The real savings start to add up when you buy blades. I usually get them for about $0.07 each and they last for two shaves and can stretch to three or four if you don’t mind a less comfortable experience.

As for a shaving brush, you can get by with cheap bristle brushes but a well-made badger brush will serve you a lot better in the long run. I’ve been using mine for three years and it’s still holding up. A shaving brush allows you to build up a good hot lather and shave well. It also prepares your face for the blade when used properly.

The Mug soap is cheap stuff but lasts a long time. I have a mug I made in a ceramics class I took long ago (don’t ask… I’m a terrible potter) that serves as my receptacle for the disk of soap. Here – this is my kit:

SimpleShavingKit
This custom shaving mug was made by a failing ceramics student!

One other thing: I don’t use traditional aftershave (unless I’m feeling like a fox, then I use Brut). Instead, I picked up a trick from my dad who uses a solution of witch hazel. That stuff is really good and it’s cheap.

Though the entire shaving kit is perhaps slightly more complicated than a cheap plastic disposable razor and a can of weirdly scented shaving gel, it saves a lot of waste in the long run. You’re not chucking plastic razors every other day or ditching plastic and metal Mach III heads. Plus the double-edged razorblades can be pressed into service (carefully) for cutting twine or making bladed tools or scary apocalyptic weapons.

Saving money is a big reason why I made the switch to a double-edge safety razor, but saving at least a little piece of the environment feels good too. I hate our disposable culture.

There’s also something very satisfying about shaving a little slower and doing the job well with a solid tool rather than a piece of Chinese plastic.

Try out a true double-edged safety razor. Though they’re obviously not vital to survival, stocking up on blades and shaving soap is really cheap… and the money you save can be used for much better things.

You’re not sacrificing a good shave. You’re sacrificing decades of modern marketing hype and plastic trash.

Try it out – I doubt you’ll go back.

Ebola Outbreaks: Two Americans Now Infected

Ebola Outbreaks: Two Americans Now Infected

Fear is growing around the globe after the Ebola Virus has spread to at least four West African countries and infected two American aid workers this week.

Ebola Doctors
Doctors decontaminating after treating patients with Ebola

An American doctor and a U.S. aid worker helping to fight an outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in West Africa are now infected with disease. Even more troubling, is how our government allowed the doctor’s family back into the U.S., despite the fact that they were living with the doctor during a period where he may have already had the virus.

Although American health officials are denying the family is infected, they were living with the doctor right before he fell ill. Ebola can be present in the body 21 days before the symptoms first show, so the fact that our government is so carelessly allowing these healthcare workers and their families to come and go from these infected areas is troubling to say the least.

Ebola can have up to a 90 percent fatality rate, which makes its spread throughout Africa something our health care officials need to take a little more seriously, especially since we have healthcare workers flying back and forth from these infected areas.

There is no vaccine and no known cure for Ebola, which causes vomiting, diarrhea and internal and external bleeding.

Are American Health Officials doing enough to protect us?

The only way to really stop Ebola from spreading is to find and isolate everyone who has come into contact with it, so why our government is allowing healthcare workers who are treating these patients back into the country without a quarantine period is a bit perplexing.

MERS Outbreak another major cause for Concern

At the same time, a number of countries in the Middle East are dealing with an outbreak of MERS, a deadly virus first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012 that has a mortality rate of 30%. Just like with the Ebola Virus, U.S. health officials seem to be taking a wait and see approach instead of taking measures to ensure the virus doesn’t reach the U.S.
Earlier this year, the Obama administration said they were closely monitoring the MERS outbreak in the Middle East. But just like with Ebola, they have done nothing to stop healthcare workers who are treating these patients from coming back into the U.S.
Because of the influx of international and U.S. healthcare workers into these areas, world health officials say there’s a good chance MERS and Ebola could hitch a ride on workers as they return home. from the infected areas.

ALERT: Delivered By Airplane: EBOLA Now Threatens 21 Million People In Major Metro Area

Mac Slavo
July 27th, 2014
SHTFplan.com

In January the U.S.-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned that the next plane could bring a pandemic.

At the time, they were referring to highly contagious strains of deadly flu virus, but in reality any killer virus could travel around the globe in less than a day.

In March we warned that the deadly Ebola virus, which kills upwards of 85% of its victims, was spreading at an alarming pace in West Africa. It was so serious that governments in the region had locked down their borders. The following month in April, officials in the U.S. and Canada were alerted that the virus may have made its way to North America, though no follow-up information was provided after the initial report. Then, just last month, the World Health Organization issued a dire warning – Ebola could go global.

Despite these warnings and the fact that over 650 people are confirmed dead by medical officials in Africa, global governments failed to take any significant action. Flights out of West Africa were still being allowed to leave without any real screening procedures, even though medical professionals in the region had warned that containment of the virus was spiraling out of control.

Now, amid the highly publicized infection of a leading Ebola doctor, the first case of the virus travelling aboard a commercial passenger airline has been confirmed.
Nigerian health authorities raced to stop the spread of Ebola on Saturday after a man sick with one of the world’s deadliest diseases brought it by plane to Lagos, Africa’s largest city with 21 million people.

The fact that the traveler from Liberia could board an international flight also raised new fears that other passengers could take the disease beyond Africa due to weak inspection of passengers and the fact Ebola’s symptoms are similar to other diseases.

Officials in the country of Togo, where the sick man’s flight had a stopover, also went on high alert after learning that Ebola could possibly have spread to a fifth country.

Screening people as they enter the country may help slow the spread of the disease, but it is no guarantee Ebola won’t travel by airplane, according to Dr. Lance Plyler, who heads Ebola medical efforts in Liberia for aid organization Samaritan’s Purse.

“Unfortunately the initial signs of Ebola imitate other diseases, like malaria or typhoid,” he said.
As always, government officials did nothing until it was too late.
Perhaps the death of the Liberian Ebola patient was an isolated incident.
However, the plane on which he traveled stopped for a layover where other passengers disembarked and then headed to Africa’s most populated city of 21 million residents.

If this man came into contact with just one or two others who then mixed with the rest of the population, it’s quite possible that scores of others are now infected. Because the symptoms during the onset of the virus are similar to a flu, by the time infected individuals realize what is happening it’s too late – too late for them, and for those who they came into contact with.

The virus may not be airborne, and because of its genetic profile it may not spread as quickly as a flu virus, but with its possible exposure to a population of 21 million people there is a distinct possibility that Ebola may mutate into something even more contagious.

While the United States claims to have screening procedures ready, at this point, with global air carriers using numerous hubs to transfer passengers, it is becoming more and more likely that the virus will eventually make an appearance in North America.

For the time being there are no active procedures being implemented to screen passengers from West Africa. If the virus were to arrive in the United States via an airplane, the infected person could easily come into contact with scores of other people who would jet off to various destinations around the country.

If that were to happen, all bets are off.

Tess Pennington, author of The Prepper’s Blueprint, says that Preparing for a Pandemic before information about it hits the news is absolutely essential:
When the pandemic begins, many will remain in a state of denial about any approaching epidemics and not want to think of the long lasting repercussions of such a disaster. Being prepared before the mass come out of their daze will ensure that you are better prepared before the hoards run to the store to stock up.
Ebola could potentially end up all over the United States within a matter of hours, a situation that would very quickly become untenable for medical emergency response teams.

Christianity and Prepping

The Panhandle Rancher speaks….Christianity and Prepping

While I have no clue what your nephew’s life path has encountered, I would share with him that prepping IS Biblical…Proverbs 27:12
“A prudent person foresees the danger ahead and takes precautions.
The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.”

n-CHRISTIANITY

Having so said, I have relatives who are very good and walk the Christian walk as closely as God has given them the light to see the right. These relatives are generational farmers in a remote region. I approached these relatives years ago about pre-positioning a stocked Conex container on their property so that if my family ever had to flee to their locale, we wouldn’t arrive as refugees. In reciprocity, I offered to provide a Conex at my location for them to stock. The head of family laughed and readily agreed to permit me to drop off a container, “If it made me feel better.”

The consensus of this family was that they walked with God and they had totally surrendered their lives to His hand. Whatever the future, they were comfortable with the outcome. As I explored their beliefs I realized they had for all purposes become Quakers (albeit members of another denomination). They had firearms for hunting and defense from wild animals but would never ever aim those weapons regardless of circumstances toward another human, not even in defense of self or family.

I thought and thought about their attitudes and my relationship with God, eventually mentioning it to a Christian cousin who is aligned with the prepper movement. Their attitudes bothered him as well.

My cousin was invited to share Thanksgiving with the farmer and family. After enjoying Thomas Turkey, he turned the conversation toward my Conex. The cousin reported back to me that if anything their attitudes toward self-defense had solidified. He even mentioned to them that God often acts through human hands and that perhaps this author was His method of providing for their common defense. Of course that idea was rejected.

As I spoke with my cousin more regarding his Thanksgiving visit, I became convinced that the farmer family was untrustworthy in a survival situation. As the contents of the Conex were sterile for identification purposes (including fingerprints), it remains in place with the hope that its contents might someday help the farmer family.

My Christian walk is less than perfect so I am a poor councilor regarding Christianity. It appears to me however, that many Christians have paid so much attention to the ‘turn the other cheek’ remark of Christ that they have come to ignore the same Christ who braided a whip to drive moneychangers from the Temple. We should not ignore that there is a whole lot of righteous slaying, approved by God, recounted in the Old Testament. Now I realize that we Christians live under a new covenant but that new covenant reinforces a timeless and unchanging God who was even accepting of soldiers serving the bloody Roman government. War in Heaven is described in the Bible. God did not roll over in this Heavenly war so I cannot believe that God would create us in His image with the intention that we not defend our families and ourselves. Not long before the crucifixion of Jesus, he even inquired of his apostles about the availability of swords. This does not sound like a weak person to me. The mere fact that one apostle carved an ear indicates to me he was trying to split his opponent longitudinally. My view of a Christian is that of a strong soldier garbed in the whole armor of God, waging war against evil.

Christianity is on the wane in the U.S. I believe that part of the reason has to do with so many Christians wholeheartedly taking ‘turn the other cheek’ out of context and applying it over the entirety of Christian life. I believe this is in disagreement with the actions of an unchanging and timeless God as recorded in the Old Testament and many of the actions of Jesus while on this earth.

I have remarked in the past that many of our societal problems arise from young men not knowing their fathers and hence never learning firsthand how to be a man. One can watch two roosters, two stallions, and/or two bulls in close proximity to one to another and see that they will fight to the death in order to preserve supremacy within the herd (or flock). Today we have many so called men who fail to act as God intended for them as head of household. Indeed there are adult males who totally abandon that role within the families they create, males whose only purpose is to irresponsibility father as many offspring as they can. Liberal feminists have completely emasculated many males. The Biblical view of the man as head of family is one who acts as provider both of sustenance and security.

We have dearth of responsible behavior. I believe this irresponsibility corresponds to the decrease in numbers of Christians in our society. Irresponsibility generates children without fathers in their lives, workmen without pride in their work and a slipshod work product, and governmental leaders whose primary goal is to secure wealth and power at the expense of the governed.

My view of Christianity involves walking with responsibility, totally accountable for my actions, and not necessarily always ‘turning the other cheek’ in response to wrongs. A real man will forgo a measure of present happiness in order to prepare against an indeterminate future. A real man will defend his family and if necessary expend his life in order to protect wife and progeny. A real man understands that the world is and always has been a dangerous place, and whenever honor and integrity permit, will take prudent measure to mitigate exposure to danger.

I have instructed my children that God does not look on death as does man. That which is terrible to us is commonplace to God. Death should not be an unexpected outcome of our lives; neither should our personal comfort. Man is made for trouble and woe. This is the norm and not the exception. We should rejoice during times of peace and ease and use that time in preparation for an uncertain future. It is the choices we make between birth and death that are important.

Real men are honorable protectors and providers.

Real men do not shirk nor retire from difficult tasks.

Real men do not blame others for their shortcomings.

Real men walk this earth with fidelity, bravery, and integrity.

My thoughts,
Panhandle Rancher

Becoming the Grey Neighbor

Becoming the Grey Neighbor

Have you heard of the Grey Man concept? The earliest record I could find of this in prepper/survival circles was in a post on the Western Rifle Shooters Association website by someone calling themselves Habcan. I don’t know if he created the concept or copied this article from another location, but I recommend reading the article if you haven’t already. For those who don’t know about the Grey Man concept, I’ll summarize it for you.

The Grey Man concept simply means blending in and not sticking out. You want to dress, move and act in a way that is completely forgettable. This is done so that you do not draw unnecessary attention to yourself as you go about life and I think the initial focus was on people who were carrying concealed firearms. There are lots of examples of how this larger concept could work in your favor to keep you safe and many survival and prepper blogs bring this concept up as a way to live or a strategy for how to avoid becoming a target of people intent to do you harm.

I was thinking of this idea in a different context though as it related to life after a SHTF scenario. One of our readers contacted me with some questions after reading a post from Selco on the SHTF School blog. Selco is from the Balkans and lived through the Balkan war from 92 – 95. He has created an excellent online course titled “One Year in Hell” that offers training derived from his own
experiences living surrounded in the real SHTF world of a war zone and without power for a year. He also blogs and writes in a post about “Survivalist Hate” where the people in a real life SHTF scenario turned on what we would call a prepper who was only trying to help.
Did you ever hear of “survivor’s guilt”? Feeling of being guilty because you survived but many others you know did not. There is something else that can “help” you to not feel that, because it can kill you. It is what I call “survivalist hate” by people around you.
I often read how people want to help other folks when SHTF, and it is really good, but in reality it works different.
When SHTF, I mean real SHTF, most of the people will not like you because you are prepared, people will hate you, even if you help them. They will hate you because you are prepared and you have food, water, weapon and shelter for you and your family, and they do not have anything like that.
I have seen how people robbed man, and his family, torching his house because he had lots of goods (he gave some of that stuff to some folks week before) and by that logic folks said that he knew that S. is going to hit the fan, and he was like guilty for them. People were angry that he prepared but did not tell them.
This is what you can call “survivalist hate”. Think about it, sentences like “he could have warned us” or “he must have stolen this from somewhere, otherwise he would have not that much”. Do not expect normal logical thinking. It does not happen much in normal times and is less in survival scenarios for most common folks.
It was these words that caused our reader to question how much they should volunteer to help their community in an emergency. Mark had been thinking about trying to organize resources in the community now, before any crisis, but reading Selco’s story above had him reconsidering going out on a limb, telegraphing he might have resources or skills and potentially becoming a victim like the man robbed for his supplies. This is what led me to consider the Grey Man concept as it could be applied to your home and resources if the SHTF. It is one thing to control your appearance and actions in a crowd to avoid detection, but what about your supplies in your home?

Always invisible in plain sight

Depending on the crisis, I have to believe there is a timeline of phases that people go through. The crisis would dictate that timeline to a large degree in that an Earthquake for example would destroy everything relatively quickly and then you would be recovering for some time afterwards. The initial violence would be up front and then people would start dealing with problems after the shaking stopped. It would be similar with any other natural disasters I assume. Something like a regional war or an economic collapse or even pandemic would cause a different timeline but regardless of how long it took people to start feeling the effects of any crisis eventually your neighbors could be dealing with illnesses or injury, disruptions in food, safety concerns from looters or approaching military forces. Unless you were quarantined in your homes, invariably neighbors would be talking at some point, sharing information and learning how others were faring. It is at this time that the prepared individual could fall into that situation described above.

There are many aspects to this and realistically how you act toward your neighbors and the situations you could face after a crisis could be the subject of a dozen articles but I will focus on this one viewpoint in this post. There is something to be said for charity and something else for self-preservation. If we were faced with a situation like above, what could you do to keep your family safe and your supplies that you have been storing up in your hands and not the hands of an angry mob?

Never draws attention to himself

Two things come to mind when trying to think about the Grey Man concept and your home. The first is that before anything happens you want to be practicing OPSEC as much as feasible in your situation. The less people know about the supplies you have stored, what you may be preparing for, your political beliefs etc. the less likely they are going to think of you if something happens. I have said it before, but unless you live in an area where this is common (and there are lots of areas where it is) I wouldn’t be seen out at the Chili’s in your camouflage pants and Army boots. Don’t get me wrong, I have these myself, but I save the camo for hunting season. Whenever I am hunting, there are thousands of other guys who look just like me and I blend in. Not necessarily at Chili’s but you get the point.

If you are getting supplies of food shipped in, make sure these are dealt with in a way that doesn’t draw attention. I wouldn’t stack boxes of MRE’s up in front of the shed while your neighbor is mowing their grass. If you are loading guns into the car for a trip to the range, do this discretely. I normally do a quick visual check to make sure no one is outside first and back the car into the garage so I can get them loaded quickly. Have a safe being delivered to the house? Try to do this during the day if most of your neighbors are at work. Large purchases from Sams or Costco could be construed the same way. A bulk pack of toilet paper is one thing, but 5 – fifty pound bags of rice or several 45 lb. pails of freeze dried food are another. Are you practicing open carry to make a statement?
The next part and probably the harder of the two to pull off would be after SHTF. How do you keep your supplies secret? How do you maintain OPSEC whenever everyone else is watching you simply because they have nothing else to do?

Grey man avoids confrontation

It would really depend on the scenario I think. For instance, if everyone was without power, I might not light my house up at night. Knowing that you have a power source, maybe solar panels could give it away that you have resources they don’t have. Of course, the situation will dictate how badly you are hated for having power if your neighbors don’t but I think eventually it could cause problems. Let’s say there wasn’t an EMP but the grid was taken down by terrorists. Every appliance still works, but the power simply isn’t coming through the wires anymore. Your electricity could at bare minimum provide conveniences like power for fans, ability to recharge batteries or enable entertainment devices. One of the prepper supplies I made sure I had was a giant roll of heavy black plastic. This has many uses, but one of them could be to black out my windows. At night, I could run electric and not draw attention.

Food is another resource that will be tough to keep secret, especially if you are cooking outside. The smell of food to a hungry person is not something you can easily keep a lid on. You could heat water outside and use that for your freeze-dried foods as one way to keep the fact that your family is still eating somewhat under wraps. Eventually though people will notice that you aren’t getting slimmer.
What about weapons? This is one that I have considered because I have made preparations that would allow me certain tactical advantages over my unprepped neighbors. What if there was the threat of violence from people walking through and looting? Would I go walking down the street in my tactical holster, bulletproof vest and battle rifle on day one? Probably not, but eventually if things got bad enough that might be my daily outfit. I think if that were the case, my neighbors and I would have other things to worry about than what I had in my house. My hope is that if things ever get that bad I will be able to help my neighbors and my contributions on that front will give me grace. Maybe that is foolish.

Even if you are completely secretive about your supplies or your neighbors are completely self-sufficient themselves you could face a time when someone is banging on your door demanding you to share what you have. Have you thought about what you would do if that happened? Like I said, there are many aspects to this concept and the final, possible confrontation is for another post. Practicing the Grey Man concept for your home in a SHTF scenario might put that off for a little while longer though or prevent it entirely and I think that is the whole point.

Jim Garrow Says Muslim Terrorists To Unleash 9/11 Shopping Mall Bombing Attacks On America

Jim Garrow Says Muslim Terrorists To Unleash 9/11 Shopping Mall Bombing Attacks On America

Obama has allowed thousands of Muslim terrorists to come in through our southern border

2009 Nobel Peace Prize nominee Dr. Jim Garrow is a man that doesn’t shy away from controversy. He leapt in to the public consciousness in 2013 when he shockingly claimed he was told by a top military veteran that the Obama administration’s “litmus test” for new military leaders is whether or not they will obey an order to fire on U.S. citizens.

Then on our radio show of October 6, 2013, Dr. Garrow dropped another bombshell. He made the amazing revelation – on our show for the first time anywhere – that he had, in fact, spent 45 years as a covert CIA operative. The revelations didn’t stop there, either. In that same broadcast, he also revealed that Andrew Breitbart and novelist Jim Clancy were targeted assassinations by the CIA.

Garrow says the event will happen simultaneously across America at hundreds of locations
Now Dr. Jim has a new revelation of an upcoming Muslim terrorist attack on Americans in America, and he is so sure of his information that he says “my sources on this are impeccable. I lay my 100% record of reliability on the line.” Here is the shocking revelation Dr. Jim made on his Facebook page today:
The target will be shopping malls. The method will be with explosive devices meant to inflict suffering and death and to wound as many as possible. This is terrorism in its lowest form. The purpose is to inflict fear in the hearts of Americans through this targeting of where we go to shop and relax. The date will be a significant one for the Islamists. The event will happen simultaneously across America at hundreds of locations (note the number). The police, DHS, and security services throughout the nation should be warned and take appropriate action.
Garrow says that it will happen on a date that “is important for Islamists”. If I had to hazard a guess I would say 9/11. Will this actually happen, is such a plan really in the works? Jim Garrow is a regular guest on our radio show, a personal friend and a brother in Christ. He has staked his entire credibility on this information being true and accurate. We believe him, and have published this story as a public warning.

Please share this article in the hopes of preventing these things from coming to pass. Thank you.

10 Reasons Why You Should Be Canning Your Own Meat

canning your own meat

You’ll be hooked, I tell you. Once you learn how to bottle your own meats, you’ll never go back to the old way of doing it.

Think about your meat habits. Do you put up a 1/2 beef in your freezer every year? Do you buy fresh from the butcher and take it home to prepare? Do you buy in bulk and freeze what you aren’t using right away? Do you buy canned meats? All of these practices have their own pros and cons. Today I’m going to share with you my top reasons for learning to bottle your own meats, and if you give it a try, your life will never be the same.

#1 – Save freezer space

For most people, freezer space is at a premium. If we can get those meats out of that precious space and into a bottle on a shelf then the space can be much better utilized for things like ice cream and otter pops. You know, the important stuff.

#2 - Buy in bulk

When we see a great ‘do-not-pass-up’ deal on meats, we’re able to take advantage of it, get our bottles filled and processed and not have to eat the same meat for every meal that week/month before it goes bad or gets freezer burned.

#3 – Use fuel you have now

In our everyday, non-emergency lives, we have fuel. We cook, heat and cool with it all the time and don’t think much about it. Many have the plan that when the power goes out, they’ll just pull out the camp chef and propane and bottle the meats in the freezer at that point. I’m here to tell you that when things go crazy, there will be much more to worry about than canning your thawing meats. Why not take care of it now when you have the time, readily available fuel and energy to get it done?

#4 – You know what goes in the bottle

No hidden ingredients. What goes in is what comes out. No artificial anything. Unless you are into that sort of thing. Then by all means, add those artificial ingredients!

#5 – Painless power outages

Cooking during a power outage is so simple with bottled meats. They are completely cooked through so we just add them to whatever recipe we are throwing together and heat it up. No extended cooking times (which use up precious alternative fuels).

# 6 – Save money (really this reason alone should convince you)

Canned meats are expensive. Where I live a small tuna sized can of chicken, 10 ounces, is about $3. With my large family, a meal gets pretty pricey buying canned meats. But I can bottle a whole quart (2 lbs) of chicken for about $3.00. I buy my chicken in bulk, usually 80 lbs at a time for less than $2 per pound, sometimes way less. Then I’m always eating sale price chicken. That 80# will keep me until the next big sale when I just rinse and repeat.

#7 – Save time

With the meats thoroughly cooked, we’ve eliminated a lot of the time involved with meal prep. It does take time to bottle the meats but that’s a concentrated and efficient amount of time that is planned for another day.

#8 – Save braincells

I’m not much of a thinker-aheader when it comes to daily meal times (I’m working on that). With meat out of the freezer I have to think at least 8-10 hours ahead (who does that?) and
sometimesmost of the time it just doesn’t happen… but I can open a can of canned meats and have a meal on the table in about 20 minutes because all I have to do is assemble and heat it through.

#9 – Save the planet

Okay, we’re not really saving the planet, but canning jars are reusable so at least we’re not contributing to the landfill by using cans. There is a little bit of an investment to get started if you buy them new but they can also be found at yard-sales or thrift stores, or just ask around your neighborhood. You might find an elderly neighbor who is happy to pass along their bottles to someone who will put them to good use. That’s you.

#10 – Less waste

Canning jars come in all sizes. Use the size that your family will eat in one meal. At my house we use both quarts and pints for chicken and beef because sometimes the meal will be for all of us and sometimes the kids are off doing kid stuff and it’s just mom dad and the littles at home.

BONUS #11 – Satisfaction

In a world where we can hire almost everything out, there is something to be said for the satisfaction of doing it ourselves. Self-reliance in skills and knowledge brings a peace that cannot come any other way. Providing for our families is our number one job and doing it well is a wonderful thing.

Ebola Biological Warfare – A Pandemic Nightmare

Ebola Biological Warfare – A Pandemic Nightmare

July 25, 2014, by Ken Jorgustin

ebola-biological-weapon

While you may not know it (this is not reported widely), the wost ever Ebola outbreak is sweeping through west Africa and is apparently raging out of control – while the worst news is that the virus may spill out of Africa into other continents – as exemplified by one of the latest to possibly have been struck by the deadly virus.

The head doctor who was tasked with containing the virus has himself apparently contracted it – while in a ‘megacity’ of 21 million people (Lagos, Nigeria). The thing is, he collapsed on arrival at Lagos airport from Liberia. The man (in his 40′s) is currently being tested.
Keyword: AIRPORT

If indeed it is confirmed that he has been infected, the scramble will now begin to find and quarantine any and all other people he may have been in contact with in recent weeks, in a city of over 20 million – the world’s fourth most populous city.

And where things get really dicey is if any of those infected people were among the passengers who were at the Lagos airport at the time, and somehow managed to get on a plane in the last few days and departed for destinations unknown…

I first read about this on zerohedge.com, and was again reminded of the high risk we face regarding an invisible and very deadly enemy – a pandemic.
For example, a few of the comments were as follows:

“There are direct flights daily from Lagos to NYC. It won’t take long to experience hell in this country if Ebola gets in.”
“Forget missiles. EBOLA Bomber”
“Wait until ISIS figures out that this is a very cheap way to dispose of infidels. No expense for C4 or timer mechanisms. All you need is someone who is willing to sneeze for the Caliphate.”
“With a 30 day incubation period and a few airplane flights this would make MH17 look like a holiday package.”

While this may seem far-fetched to someone living in America suffering from normalcy-bias and mainstream media propaganda, it is a glaring and obvious risk – one which could develop into a full-blown deadly pandemic as it grows exponentially in populated regions.

If the radicals are so hell-bent on putting down Americans, and while so many of them are willing to take their own lives to do so, then how difficult would it be for them to recruit Ebola ‘carriers’ and send them all to major cities in the United States? By the time we realize what has happened, it will be too late.

Preparing for a deadly pandemic must occur before the onset. The time (as always) is NOW.
It is possible to survive a pandemic, however it will require that you have ALL the food and supplies that you need in your dwelling – while you do not go out in public while it rages outside your door.

Ebola incubation period: Up to 3-weeks

One third to die by plague or famine; one third will fall by the sword; one third to be scattered to every wind

One third to die by plague or famine; one third will fall by the sword; one third to be scattered to every wind

(NaturalNews) Many believe that Biblical signs of famine and pestilence have begun to appear in our world, and that's why the title of this article quotes Ezekiel 5:12.

In what is now admitted by all the top infectious disease experts to be a "post-antibiotics era" where Big Pharma's drugs are useless, we are now facing unprecedented outbreaks of Ebola, Chikungunya and even the Plague.

Diseases are spreading out of control in many regions while at the same time the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is recklessly exposing its own scientists to Anthrax and other deadly agents. (1)

Here's a frightening update on some of the most dangerous infectious diseases that are now spreading out of control:

Ebola outbreak out of control; 600 dead and counting

From The Extinction Protocol blog (2):

Ebola has spread through several West African countries, including Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea, since its latest outbreak in February. The death toll from the virus has surpassed 600 despite efforts by regional and international health experts to contain the epidemic. There is currently no known cure for Ebola, a form of hemorrhagic fever whose symptoms are diarrhea, vomiting and bleeding.

Deadly airborne plague strikes four in Denver, Colorado

From Bloomberg.com (3):

A rare airborne form of the plague that can spread through coughing and sneezing has infected a Colorado man, and state health officials are searching for other possible cases.

Following that story, Bloomberg went on to report that the airborne disease had already begun to spread to other victims: (4)

Three more plague cases were found in Colorado, a week after the first infection of the deadliest form of the disease was reported in the state in a decade. The man initially reported with pneumonic plague on July 11 is hospitalized. Two of the new cases also had pneumonic plague, while the third had a milder form.

Chikungunya explodes across 35 U.S. states

From the New York Daily News: (13)

There is no vaccine and no treatment. The Centers for Disease Control has listed a total of 497 cases in the U.S. in 35 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, 197 locally transmitted. "The arrival of chikungunya virus, first in the tropical Americas and now in the United States, underscores the risks posed by this and other exotic pathogens," Roger Nasci, a mosquito expert at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said in a statement.

Drug-resistant infections explode 500% across U.S. hospitals

From Natural News: (5)

Drug-resistant superbug infections have reached near-epidemic levels across U.S. hospitals, with an alarming 500% increase now documented in a study just published in the August issue of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology (the journal of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America).

Lead author of the study, Dr. Joshua Thaden, warned "This dangerous bacteria is finding its way into healthcare facilities nationwide... A CRE epidemic is fast approaching... Even this marked increase likely underestimates the true scope of the problem given variations in hospital surveillance practices."

MERS mutates into airborne pathogen

From TheWeek.com: (6)

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) may be airborne... "These data show evidence for the presence of the airborne MERS in the same barn that was owned by the patient and sheltered the infected camels," the study authors said in a statement.

Sierra Leone's chief Ebola doctor contracts Ebola

As yet more evidence that medical staff are some of the first people who tend to become infected with deadly diseases, a top Ebola doctor has himself contracted Ebola.

From Reuters: (7)

The head doctor fighting the deadly tropical virus Ebola in Sierra Leone has himself caught the disease, the government said.

The 39-year-old Sheik Umar Khan, hailed as a "national hero" by the health ministry, was leading the fight to control an outbreak that has killed 206 people in the West African country. Ebola kills up to 90 percent of those infected and there is no cure or vaccine.

Chinese government quarantines entire city after outbreak of bubonic plague

To the shock of international observers, an entire city in China has been quarantined by the government following an outbreak of the plague.

From Fox News: (8)

A city in China has reportedly been sealed off after one resident died from bubonic plague... Plague is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Yersinia pestis that is carried by rodents, and can be transmitted to people through flea bites or by direct contact with the tissues or fluids of an animal with plague, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The disease is known for killing millions of people in Europe in the 1300s, in a pandemic called the Black Death.

Insect plague reaches Biblical proportions in Wisconsin

As reported in TheWeek.com: (9)

This year's mayfly hatch in the Mississippi River reached Biblical proportions. Wisconsin residents captured some stunning -- read: horrifying -- images of the mayfly emergence, which happened on Sunday night. Check out the swarm below.

One third to die by the sword

Beyond the plague and pestilence now emerging, we are also witnessing what may be the start of World War IIi with recent events in Ukraine.

The U.S. and Russia are in a tense standoff over trying to assign blame for the downing of MH17, a passenger jet with hundreds of innocent civilians on board. The U.S. government says Russia did it, but when the State Department was pressed on what evidence they might have to prove it, they could only point to tweets and Youtube videos as their "intelligence sources." Wow.

As explained on LewRockwell.com: (10)

Tuesday the US government admitted it had been bluffing about its certainty that Russia was behind the downing of Malaysian Air Flight MH-17 over Ukraine. This dramatic turn of events started with State Department Spokeswoman Marie Harf claiming Monday that the State Department's certainty of Russian involvement in the apparent downing of the plane was primarily based on "social media" evidence.

Many observers believe these events may be the spark that leads to war. Already, 1 in 10 Americans now believes America should launch an all-out war on Russia due to current events.

As reported by CNN: (11)

...one in 10 say the United States should take military action if there is clear evidence that Russia is responsible for the shooting down of the plane, which killed all 298 passengers and crew.

Infowars' Steve Watson added this all-important analysis comment: "The number may at first seem low, but it translates to one in every ten Americans believing that a war with a nuclear super power is a good idea." (12)

One third scattered to every wind

Wrapping up the Biblical quote, "one third scattered to the wind" could very easily describe the aftermath of a grid-down scenario in which masses of homeless refugees flee U.S. cities in an effort to survive.

We already know that the vast majority of Americans now depend almost entirely on the government for their survival: housing, health insurance, food stamps, unemployment checks, disability benefits, retirement checks, social security checks, Medicare coverage, housing subsidies and more. Yet, at the same time, the U.S. government is beyond bankrupt. It's trillions of dollars in debt and the enormity of that debt is multiplying at an alarming rate.

It doesn't take a mathematical genius to figure out that the U.S. government's financial default is only a matter of time, and when it happens, all the business sectors kept afloat by government payments and entitlements will crumble: Big Pharma and the health care system, Big Food manufacturers, large agricultural producers, weapons manufacturers, universities, public services (including law enforcement) and more.

When that happens, the cities will rapidly become uninhabitable due to crime waves that spread faster than Ebola. No honest citizen will be safe in an urban area, and residents will attempt to flee into lower-density population areas, scattering them all "to every wind."

Humanity is one event away from a global wipeout

What can you do against all this? Keep your head on straight and prepare for uncertain times. A wave of disease and pestilence has already begun, and the "health authorities" openly admit all their vaccines, antibiotics and pharmaceutical drugs are worthless against these new pandemics. Humanity right now stands just one event away from a global wipeout from infectious disease.

All it takes is a simple laboratory mistake, the release of an intentional bioweapon, or a random mutation of a virus that becomes a global killer. Humanity is largely defenseless against pandemics and infectious disease, yet we keep packing people into high-density urban areas as if we were all magically immune.

We aren't. And the pandemic wave may have only just begun.

FEMA Preparing For 200 Million Deaths According To Former Border Patrol Security Agent (Video)

According to former Border Patrol Security expert Zach Taylor, This current so-called border crises is a manufactured crises that has been going on since at least the year 1986 when the Reagan administration was in power, and this is what as known as Asymmetrical Warfare. Here is a clip from Zack taylor’s interview for the upcoming documentary film called “Back To The Border”

FEMA Preparing For 200 Million Deaths According To Former Border Patrol Security Agent

“This gives people that are trying to get their infrastructure, their personnel, their drugs, their dirty bombs, their biological weapons, their chemical weapons into the United States without being noticed” the opportunity to do so, “because this part of the border is open, it is not being controlled,” the 26-year Border Patrol veteran outlines in the extensive interview. “If asymmetrical warfare is going to be successful, the first thing that has to be done is to compromise America’s defenses against invasion,” Taylor says, “because they have to have their personnel inside the United States to affect the infrastructure.. they have to affect the degeneration from inside the United States.”

He also wrote this in a June 22,2014 press release by the The National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers are retired Border Patrol Officers .

This invitation to invade America by illegal aliens from Central America has been going on for years with the explicit

s elected officials. The present invasion of thousands of unaccompanied minors is the obvious desired result of the current administration, the United States Senate that passed S-744 and every other elected official in the United States that has not stood up and demanded that the Immigration Laws of the United States be fully enforced and in particular a President that announced that it does not make good sense to enforce Immigration Laws.

This is not a humanitarian crisis, this is a manufactured crisis. Any media outlet that calls this a humanitarian crisis is concealing what is actually happening. This is the result of American leaders taking America into a lawless state over time and this latest invasion by opportunistic law breakers is a direct result of their actions. Period.
