What You Need to Understand about CMP and EMP

CMP is caused by solar storms on the sun

This morning the earth was hit by a solar storm, fortunately the majority of the storm missed us and we were just on the edge. Tomorrow another storm will hit the earth. Last July the North Koreans had a tramp steamer off the coast of the US with scud missiles and launches on it. What you need to understand about CMP and EMP is that the danger is always there.

Lets talk about CMP and tomorrow, Saturday Sept 13^th 2014.

Here is the space weather report put out by NOAA http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/ for tomorrow.
“2014-09-12 01:15 UTC The First CME (Coronal Mass Ejection) Has Arrived

The first of the two CMEs predicted to arrive today made its appearance right on time. G1 ((Minor) geomagnetic storming is expected to begin within the next few hours with a maximum projected level of G2 (Moderate) storms for September 12th. A G3 (Strong) Geomagnetic Storm Watch is still in effect for September 13th due to the combined influence of this CME and the one projected to arrive late on the 12th. G1 (Minor) storming is likely to continue into September 14th. In addition, the S1 (Minor) solar radiation storm that is in progress as a result of the eruption on September 10th is expected to persist for the next few days with a possible slight increase with the arrival of the CMEs. Keep in mind that the forecast periods listed are in Universal Time so aurora watchers in the northern U.S. should be looking for possible activity tonight through Saturday night. Stay tuned for updates.”
“This is a pretty strong solar storm, and we just won’t know until it gets here” what it will do, said CNN meteorologist Chad Myers.

Now I am not saying that this storm will be the one that devastates this country, but I am saying that the threat is always there of a CMP hitting the earth directly. To avoid confusion CMP and CME is the same thing just a different term.



Now what about EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) which could be described loosely as a man made CME.

Dr. Peter Vincent Pry who is Executive Director of the Task Force on National and Homeland Security and Director of the U.S. Nuclear Strategy Forum, both Congressional Advisory Boards, and served on the Congressional EMP Commission, the Congressional Strategic Posture Commission, the House Armed Services Committee, and the CIA.

Dr Pry recently stated, in interview with the Blaze Magazine the following

“Many Americans have no idea that North Korea has actually been making preparations for a future attack on the United States”

“Last July, there was a tramp freighter they sent into the Gulf of Mexico,” said Pry. “On board were two SA-2 nuclear-capable missiles on their launchers. They weren’t equipped with nuclear warheads, but they were the exact kind of missile you would need to do a short-range, high-altitude EMP attack to take out the U.S. grid. The only reason we found out about it was because, once they saw that they could bring the missiles in close to the U.S. [off our southern coast], they decided to see if they could get them through the Panama Canal. And that’s where we caught them. We found the two launchers under a few thousand bags of sugar.”

As you can see the threat of CMP and EMP are both real. CMP has affected the earth on previous occasions such as the Carrington Event of 1859 and the Quebec Incident of 1989.

WARNING!!!A massive sun storm heading to Earth today

Scientists say an extreme solar flare is heading its way to the Earth, which may disrupt communications equipment and power grids, but exactly which part of the planet will see the biggest impact isn’t yet known.



A strong solar flare, created from a giant magnetic explosion on the sun, is moving its way to Earth, said Tom Berger, the director of the Space Weather Prediction Center in Colorado.

Such Phenomenon can disrupt power grids, radio transmissions and other electronics, and in a worst-case scenario could actually take such systems down, perhaps for extended periods.

“There’s been a giant magnetic explosion on the sun,” Berger said. “Because it’s pointed right at us, we’ll at least catch some of the cloud” of highly energized and magnetized plasma that can disrupt Earth’s magnetic sphere, which sometimes leads to temporary power grid problems.

Berger nonetheless added that the worst effects of the storm are likely to narrowly miss Earth, passing over the North Pole.

‘Extreme’ Solar Storm Hurling Towards Earth

Solar Storm Warning. It will be a direct hit.

A pair of CME’s (coronal mass ejection) is headed directly towards Earth. The two CME’s (storm clouds of superheated solar plasma) are the result of of giant magnetic explosions on the sun Sept. 9th and 10th from sunspot AR2158. X-class.

While the X1.6 flare is on the ‘extreme’ forecast scale, it’s at the lower end.
Having said that however, don’t be lulled. These flares could not have been more direct (pointing straight at the earth when they exploded).



“It’s been several years since Earth has had a solar storm of this size coming from sunspots smack in the middle of the sun,” said Tom Berger, director of the Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colorado.

“But what makes this one more worrisome is its location on the sun along with its strength,” he said.

CME’s that hit Earth can trigger intense geomagnetic storms, which in turn may disrupt GPS navigation, radio communications and power grids.

What solar experts fear most is a recurrence of the huge coronal mass ejection events of 1921 and 1859 (Carrington Event). A government-sponsored panel in 2008 estimated that such a solar event today would likely destroy the U.S. electrical grid, inflict a staggering $1 to $2 trillion dollars worth of damage, and require over a year to repair.

While the same panel did not spell out the obvious (that countless millions of people would die without electricity and the electrical grid), the fact is that one day, a solar storm of sufficient magnitude will strike the earth again. It could happen at any time, with little warning.

NOAA forecasters estimate (the recent earth-directed CME’s) a nearly 80% chance of polar geomagnetic storms on Sept. 12th when the first of the two CME’s arrives.

X-Class Solar Flares Hurl Two Coronal Mass Ejections Towards Earth

Sunspot AR2058 has erupted twice in the last few hours and the resultant coronal mass ejections are heading our way. Forecasters from NOAA predict they will hit before the weekend but have not yet said precisely when, or what, if any the effects will be.

HF radio communications were disrupted for more than an hour after the larger of the two flares occurred. The X1.6 caused ionization of the upper atmosphere with radio emissions moving at 2330 miles per hour away from the Sun.

NOAA estimate the chance of further flares at 85% for M-class and 40% for X-class over the next 24 hours.
